Love and compassion should be considered as the basis of life ...

Vallalar, the saint, has made this the basis of all his preachings. Treating not only people but also all the life forms with love and compassion, is the value he has emphasized the most. Be it his stand against the cruelty of killing animals for meat, or be his preaching on sharing resources with the needy, Love and compassion is the foundation of his ideology.

One of the most revered saints of the 19th century, Ramalinga Adigalar had imbibed in his own life and that of his followers, the value of equality.

Coming to think of it, have you, my dear reader, ever thought how wonderful things could be in life, if only you were treated equally by your peers and your family? Yes, yes, we've all been there!

Although, the equality the saint preached was on a socio-economic level, I, humbly think that the value must be practised from self. Like charity, equality also begins at home. To treat all with kindness requires a great amount of selflessness and that in-turn, is born out of love. 

Let's start with baby steps: 

1. The next time you are frustrated at an office attendant for bringing your water bottle a little late, think of how many desks they have to tend to at the same time. Be compassionate!

2. About to yell at a cyclist for trying to squeeze between gaps during peak traffic hours and hindering your movement? Stop! Think of all the physical labour he has to put in just to get home. Be compassionate, he might also have had a long day, just like you!

Take a moment, pause and appreciate the life around you. Amongst all that chaos is the very purpose of your life. You may choose to fight your way through or slide smooth with Love and Compassion. And do remember, you will get back all that positivity for sure.
