What should the prayer room look like according to Vastu Shastra?
In general, Vastu Shastra says that the prayer room is ideal when it is square in shape. That is, the dimensions of length, width, and height in equal, is considered to be of optimal structure. The reason is that in the square system, all four directions are of equal size and therefore natural environment within them is in harmony with the wave movements expressed by the brain. Hence it enhances the spiritual connection of the mind.
A pooja platform made of wood is good to look at and feels like worshiping in a temple. The platform should be made of good wood with no cracks on it. Images of gods adorned with wooden frames may be placed facing either north or east direction. Vastu mentions that placing images of Swami facing south in the pooja room or performing puja facing south are incorrect practices.
The prayer room should itself be in the right place. The Northeast region is said to be ideal for it. This is because the earth is inclined towards northeast. Thus, energy waves from outer space enter through the northeastern direction. Vastu mentions North-east corner as the seat of God.
Since Northeast corner is considered to be first ideal choice for worship, it is advised to have the pooja room there without shutting it out entirely. The ceiling of the pooja room may be a little lower than the ceilings of other rooms. It is also mentioned that the north parst of the northeast holds the key to financial prosperity and the eastern part is key to knowledge.
It is even better to let sunlight enter the pooja room in the mornings. Ideally, use the north or south wall to support the images of Gods. Vastu specialists suggest to place the Kul Devata, Deity of Lineage, here. Also, before placing idols or Images of certain deities, always consult the elders in the family.
